NBC-17 will join the International Festival of Raleigh as a media partner this year when the Festival holds its 27th annual event at the Raleigh Convention Center.
The Festival is one of Raleigh’s signature events, and attracted 30,000 people in 2011. The event highlights the diverse cultures found in the Triangle and is always a huge hit with its audience.
The Festival runs Friday through Sunday and includes native dancing and performances, exhibits, shopping and foods from around the globe. There are multiple stages at the event, and children can go from country to country to get special “passports” stamped to become a “citizen of the world.”
There is also a section for beer and wine for adults.
NBC-17 will have a significant presence at the Festival, with a special interactive booth at the event that is sure to be a hit with children. NBC-17 will help spread the word about the popular Festival. Some festival participants will be featured in NBC-17 coverage leading up to event.
“The International Festival is a wonderful annual tradition for the Triangle,” said Clodagh Lyons-Bastian, executive director of International Focus. “Since the venues are produced by our local ethnic communities, it’s really the only event that brings all our diverse citizens together to celebrate and connect in friendship. Fifty-eight of the area’s international groups are participating this year with representation from all corners of the globe.
“We’re really excited about all the features at this year’s International Festival. From world-class international music and dancing to kids’ activities, shopping, and great food, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.”
The partnership continues NBC-17’s push to contribute to the community. NBC-17 also partners with Band Together to help raise money for nonprofits and its anchors are active in supporting many community events.
