My Carolina Today director Jodi Dishner makes rum balls every holiday season as one of her traditions.

What You'll Need

  • 1 Cup vanilla wafer crumbs
  • 1 Cup pecans, chopped finely
  • 1 Cup powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbs Cocoa
  • 1 1/2 Tbs Karo syrup
  • 1/4 Cup (or more) Rum or Bourbon

Cooking / Preparation Instructions

Mix all ingredients together.  Form into small balls, using about 1 rounded
teaspoon full of the mixture for each ball. 
Roll in more powdered sugar & store in a tightly covered
container.  Store in refrigerator for a
couple weeks.

TIP: Before assembling, know that the phone will ring, and
someone will come to the door.  Have a
slightly damp towel nearby, because this stuff gets a little sticky.  Also, try to resist tasting the
“raw” dough.  They won't be
tasty until they ripen a few days.

Before serving, roll in more powdered sugar to freshen their
appearance. This recipe makes about six dozen rum balls. Make a couple weeks in advance so they ripen nicely.
