Work is scheduled to start Monday on a busy bridge in southeast Wake County. Parts of Auburn Knightdale Road will be closed due to construction. The work is part of an 8.1 million dollar contract for seven new bridges in the county. The 50 year old bridge is considered structurally deficient and functionally obsolete. That means while the bridge is safe to use, it has needed more constant repairs over the years and should be replaced. The closure is expected to last until November 2015.
It will send 3,200 drivers who use the bridge on an average day to detours on Battle Bridge, Rock Quarry, Barwell, Poole and Grasshopper roads.
