The second day of the ACC Tournament is underway at the Greensboro Coliseum. Here are live updates on the event.
4:42 p.m.: Carolina has struggled to put away Boston College but has now pushed its lead out to 68-53 with only 5:39 to play. Brice Johnson has been terrific for Carolina, with 15 points on 7 of 16 shooting. And Marcus Paige, who just buried another jumper, has had a strong game despite some turnovers.
The winner of this one plays Louisville Thursday at 2:30 p.m.
4:25 p.m.: We’re deep in the second half at the Greensboro Coliseum, and North Carolina’s lead is 54-46.
Carolina had a big run to end the first half, but Boston College is trying to fight its way back into this one. Carolina is still trying to force the action, pushing the ball up the court and looking to get it inside when BC is back on defense.
Carolina has never been really pushed but they haven’t knocked out Boston College, either.
3:49 p.m.: North Carolina is up 43-30 at the half, with Brice Johnson leading the way with nine points. Marcus Page has eight and Justin Jackson seven as the Tar Heels are getting balanced scoring.
3:43 p.m.: Carolina is pushing ahead in this game with Boston College. Right now the Tar Heels are up 9 38-28 and Justin Jackson is having a big game. He just had a catch-and-score from J.P. Tokoto and converted a three-point play.
Right now the Tar Heels look energized in the Greensboro Coliseum.
Marcus Paige just scored to cap an 8-0 run and Carolina’s lead is 41-28.
3:34 p.m.: Justin Jackson just hit a three-pointer for Carolina to top a big Tar Heel run. Boston College just called time-out to slow Carolina down, but right now the Heels have a 23-16 lead. Carolina was sluggish early but has been hot the last few minutes.
By the way, Carolina is 3 of 5 from three-point range.
3:12 p.m.: UNC is up 13-11 on Boston College even though Kennedy Meeks is out with a fever and Isaiah Hicks is out with two quick fouls. Carolina is trying to pick up the pace after a bit of a sluggish start.
3:02 p.m. Boston College jumps out to a 5-0 lead on North Carolina, but Brice Johnson just scored fro the Tar Heels and it’s 5-2 Eagles early.
Remember, Carolina is playing without Kennedy Meeks in this game because he has a fever.
2:36 p.m.: Florida State had a 20-point lead with 9:09 to lead but had to hold on at the end. Clemson’s Rod Hall missed a short layup with nine seconds left and then Clemson missed a long three-pointer at the buzzer as the Seminoles held on, 76-73.
2:22 p.m.: Whoa, this got interesting. Florida State is now hanging onto a 3-point lead in the final minute after leading by 20.
2:13 p.m.: Florida State in great shape here, with a 73-64 lead on Clemson despite 23 points by Rod Hall.
1:32 p.m.: The ACC television broadcast just said post player Kennedy Meeks will not play for North Carolina in today’s game against Boston College. That’s a big blow for UNC, where Meeks has been one of the Tar Heels’ best players.
Meanwhile, Florida State is stretching out its lead against Clemson and is now up 47-35
1:19 p.m..: Big shot by Clemson with the shot clock running down, but the Tigers are having a tough time against Florida State’s defense. Right now it’s 41-30 Florida State after the Seminoles just hit a three-pointer against Clemson’s zone.
12:56 p.m.: Florida State is in command of this one with a 33-26 lead over Clemson at halftime.
Florida State has blocked five shots already in this contest, and Clemson is shooting just 38 percent. Xavier Rathan-Mayes had a strong half for the Seminoles with 12 points, and the 6-foot-4 freshman guard also has three rebounds.
Clemson won at Florida State 62-56 on Feb. 4 but the Seminoles won at Clemson, 59-55, on Jan. 19.
12:49 p.m.: Clemson is now on a run after Florida State pushed out to a big lead. Right now it’s FSU up 30-24 but the Tigers are trying to get back in this.
12:30 p.m.: Clemson and Florida State are locked in a tight game in the opener on Wednesday, with Florida State up 17-16 deep in the first half.
Tigers guard Rod Hall, with his long hair bouncing off the back of his jersey, is leading Clemson early. He has four points on 2 of 5 shooting and also has a rebound and assist.
But guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes si doing even better for the Seminoles,. Rathan-Mayes has nine points on 4 of 7 shooting to lead all scorers.
Florida State already has blocked five shots, by the way.
North Carolina plays in the second game, taking the court around 2:30 p.m. against Boston College.
