The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday it fired one jail officer and arrested another after four inmates were found to have cellphones in the county jail.
The four inmates were arrested and charged April 3 at the Lee County Jail.
All were charged with possession of cell phones. An investigation linked two jail officers to the phones.
Robert Ellis Fleming, 35, 122 Big Man Drive, Sanford, was charged with providing an inmate with a cell phone and tools to conceal contraband, aid and abet an inmate in possessing a cell phone, and tools to conceal contraband and receiving a bribe, the sheriff’s office said.
He was being held in Lee County Jail under $50,000 secured bond.
The name of the dismissed jail officer was not released.
The investigation is ongoing.
