The brightest minds in technology descended upon the Raleigh Convention Center Wednesday for Internet Summit 2014.
The summit plays host to workshops, speakers and a place to network for both new and old technology.
Speakers such as co-founder of Apple Steve Wozniak are scheduled to make an appearance.
Jess Knight said she knew her email marketing company, iContact, needed a strong subject line at the summit.
“Sometimes people like to say that email marketing is dead but I’m here to tell them at iContact, that just isn’t true,” Knight said. “We thought, ‘Why not come as a zombie and Chuck Norris to show you can’t kill email?’”
Krystal Jones, manager of strategic service at iContact, said the highest percentage of conversations concerning purchases occurs through email.
Wednesday’s keynote speaker was founder of Yahoo Tech David Pogue.
Pogue’s outlook for email was bleak.
“Email is rapidly declining. The younger generation does not get it. It’s got to be instantaneous,” he said.
But Knight is adamant that email isn’t going anywhere.
“Just like Twinkies stay around your kitchen forever so does email,” Knight said.
The summit wraps up at the convention center Thursday night.
