ER waits prompt NC hospital to have patients seek other care

Long waiting times for emergency care at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville have the hospital recommending patients seek care elsewhere if possible.
A hospital spokesman tells The Fayetteville Observer that at least twice on Tuesday more than 180 patients were seeking emergency care.
One woman told the newspaper she waited for about 17 hours with her son, who sought treatment Tuesday evening for a head injury. She says they arrived at 8 p.m., he had a CAT scan about 90 minutes later and finally got inside the Emergency Department early Wednesday afternoon.
The hospital says the most seriously injured are seen first.
It’s not clear why there has been a rush for emergency services but the hospital expects things to calm down in the coming days.
