A female student at Hoke County High School filed a report with a school resource officer claiming that a 17-year-old student threatened to post sexually explicit material of her on social media if she did not perform certain sexual acts, the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
The report was filed on April 13 and the sheriff’s office began its investigation into the allegations. During the investigation, deputies said they learned that Deandre Spivey-McLean, 17, threatened to post sexually explicit material of the female student on social media websites if she did not perform various sexual acts on him and several other males.
A second suspect, JeSean McPhaul, 19, provided transportation to pick up the female victim from school and took part in several sexual acts with her.
The sheriff’s office said the crimes took place over the course of several months until the girl reported it.
The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office collected evidence to corroborate the crimes.
Spivey-McLean was arrested on Wednesday at Hoke County High School and McPhaul turned himself into authorities.
Students at Hoke County High had mixed reaction to the news of Spivey-McLean’s arrest.
WNCN spoke with to two students who know Spivey-McLean.
Angelica Carrillo said, “I never thought he would do that. The other day he said we should be best friends. That’s why I feel bad. But I guess they should get what they deserve if the sheriff has proof.”
Julio Ortiz said, “It’s not always the guy’s fault. It’s the girl’s fault, too.”
Spivey-McLean was charged with six counts of human trafficking, six counts of sexual servitude, six counts of second-degree forcible sex offense and six counts of first-degree kidnapping. He is also facing several other child sex charges. He was given a $400,000 secure bond.
