Shumuriel Ratliff

Shumuriel joined the WNCN news team as a general assignment reporter in March 2014.

As a North Carolina native, Shumuriel is happy to be back in the Tar Heel State. She was born and raised in Monroe, North Carolina.

Shumuriel comes to the Triangle after spending two years in Huntsville, Alabama as a general assignment reporter. During her time in Huntsville, Shumuriel won an Associated Press award for “Best Spot News Story.” Before Alabama, Shumuriel was a reporter for WCTI-12 in New Bern, North Carolina.

Shumuriel received her bachelor’s in mass communications from Winston-Salem State University.

While at WSSU, Shumuriel wrote for the school paper, the News Argus. She also worked with the school TV station, Ram-TV.

While still trying to find her niche in the TV business, Shumuriel interned at WXII 12 News in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. That internship allowed Shumuriel to learn as a production assistant and web reporter for WXII-12.

When Shumuriel is not hard at work, you can find her shopping or exploring the town. Being born and raised in the South, Shumuriel is full of Southern hospitality, so feel free to email Shumuriel to say “Hi” or drop a story idea.
