Drivers will notice big changes on Monday morning if they travel on eastbound Interstate 40.
The South Saunders Street/U.S.70/401/N.C. 50 exit (No. 298) will see a major traffic pattern switch.
Exit 298-B, which loops around to the right to put traffic for downtown Raleigh onto northbound South Saunders Street/U.S. 70/401/N.C. 50, will be closed on Friday night, May 15, for about a year.
The closure will allow crews to safely do bridge and interchange work along I-40.
Both northbound and southbound traffic on South Saunders Street/U.S. 70/401/N.C. 50 will have to exit at 298-A, then turn right or left at the traffic light. The ramp will be widened to accommodate motorists.
The same type of ramp closure at that exit for I-40 West took place last weekend.
Message signs alerting drivers about the change are located along I-40 East.
