An abandoned house in Durham caught fire Sunday morning and nearly destroyed a neighboring home, fire officials said.
The Durham Fire Department responded to a structure fire call at 1211 Gilbert St. just after 3:30 a.m. after receiving a call from the neighbors at 1209 Gilbert St.
When crews arrived on scene, the one story house had heavy fire involvement. Neighbors told authorities the house was abandoned.

The home to the left of the house that caught fire had a broken window and minor heat damage to the power meter as a result of the fire.
The fire building was a total loss.
Eighteen firefighters responded to the call and were on the scene for nearly three hours.
