A Wilmington man who was commander of an American Legion post is accused of abusing his role of supervising probationers, offering them sex in exchange for less time in community service.
Local media outlets report 64-year-old David Hartley was arrested Thursday after New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office detectives conducted an undercover operation.
Detectives say North Carolina Probation and Parole officials received numerous complaints about Hartley seeking out female probationers and propositioning them for sex in exchange for less time on their community services.
Hartley is charged with obtaining property by false pretense and obstruction of justice. It’s unclear if he has a lawyer.
