Authorities say a 150-pound black bear crawled through an open window and into a home in an Asheville neighborhood before wandering off.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports a person in Beaverdam called 911 to report a bear had entered a home Tuesday night while the resident was inside. Authorities say by the time they arrived, the bear had already wandered back outside. No one was hurt. Fire crews monitored the bear until it wandered off.
N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission biologist Mike Carraway told the paper in March a lot of bear activity is expected in Western North Carolina this spring due to strong population numbers. Carraway recommends securing trash, taking down bird feeders and getting rid of other food sources that may attract the animals.
