A 48-year-old man threw drugs and a handgun from his vehicle while leading deputies from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office on a chase Tuesday.
James Lemontreall Jones III of 4804 Kiara Drive, Hope Mills, refused to stop for a deputy Highway 87 South near Old Wilmington Highway.
Jones led deputies on a chase that ended near mile marker 47 on Interstate 95, the sheriff’s office said.
Jones jumped and ran from his vehicle and was later apprehended.
During the chase, the sheriff’s office said Jones threw drugs and a handgun from his vehicle. Those items were recovered by deputies.
Jones was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony possession with intent to manufacture, sell and/or deliver cocaine and misdemeanor resisting a public officer.
He is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
