East Carolina beat Houston 9-1 Sunday to capture their first American Athletic Conference tournament championship.
With the victory, the Pirates clinched an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament.
ECU and Houston were tied at one heading into the fifth inning. The Pirates then broke the game open with five runs to take a 6-1 lead. Luke Bolka started the scoring with a 2-run home run. Eric Tyler drew a bases loaded walk before Luke Lowery smacked a 2-run single.
Nick Durazo threw 5 scoreless innings in relief after taking over for starter David Lucroy.
East Carolina added 3 more runs in the 9th inning to cruise to the tournament title.
