For the first time in American baseball, an all-female national tournament will be taking place in Florida next week and the Triangle area is well represented.
Two girls from Cary and one from Fuquay are on the Carolina Terminators team that was scrimmaging against a pair of boys teams at Bond Park in Cary Saturday.
Mary Bowman, a 13-year-old from Cary, said she thinks it will be “awesome” and “cool” to be involved in the first all-girl tournament ever.
Kayla Tanner, a 12-year-old from Cary, said she wishes there were an all-girls league locally.
Carissa Adams, an 11-year-old from Fuquay, said it’s an “amazing opportunity” to play in a national tournament against all-girl teams.
Carolina Coach Tammy Adams said she’s glad girls are finally getting that opportunity, adding that baseball and softball are completely different sports.
The girls beat the boys 9-8.
