Wendell man accused of setting patrol vehicle on fire

Eric Timberlake is accused of setting a Zebulon patrol vehicle on fire while an officer was still inside.

ZEBULON, N.C.- A Wendell man is facing charges after police say he set the back seat of a Zebulon Police Department vehicle on fire.

Eric Timberlake, 31 is accused of setting the back seat of a patrol vehicle on fire while an officer was still inside the vehicle. The officer was transporting Timberlake to the Wake County Detention Center on Friday when the incident occurred.

Documents show that the back seat was damaged as well as some of the officer’s gear.

Timberlake was charged with burning personal property. Timberlake was previously charged in March with common law robbery and resisting a public officer.

Timberlake was given a $100,000 bond.

Arrest records show that Timberlake has been arrested at least five other times on a variety of charges, including assault on a female in January, driving while impaired in July 2014 and communicating threats in March 2104.
