RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Raleigh Police Department officers and animal control personnel say they have caught a fox that bit an adult female and attacked a boy on Tuesday morning.
A jogger also reported being chased by a fox on the 1400 block of Courtland Drive while a fox also bit a shoe worn by an 8-year-old boy on Wake Forest Road.
Maiachi Yates said he and his cousins were playing in a parking lot when the fox ran up. As the fox attacked, the kids ran toward an apartment but the door was locked. That’s when the fox bit his shoe, Maiachi said.
Fortunately, he was not injured.
“I fell. He bit me on the leg,” Maiachi said. “I was hollering, saying, Stop! Stop! Stop!”
His aunt, Tara Thompson, said they were waiting for his mother to come home to take him to the doctor.
The fox was caught sometime between 4 pm and 5:15 pm on Tuesday. The fox will be transported for testing to determine if it is rabid.
“While the fox’s capture reduces the imminent concern for the area, residents are asked to remain on the alert over the coming days in case other aggressive and potentially diseased animals are nearby,” officials said.
Another person who was attacked wouldn’t give her full name but said, “I screamed. It attacked me. It bit me on the leg. I threw a trash can at it. I screamed and it ran toward me. It’s pretty aggressive.”
