CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) – A big change has been made in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill athletics department after the university fired C.D. Mock as head coach of the wrestling team Friday.
In January, Mock came under fire for making controversial remarks on his blog while defending his son Corey Mock in the aftermath of allegations of sexual assault that resulted in Mock being expelled from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
The coach said he started the blog as a way to vent his frustrations, but critics said he went too far with some of his comments.
One comment that resulted in a lot of backlash was when he said, “To suggest that a girl who has had two drinks is incapable of saying ‘no’ is ludicrous.”
Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham said he made the decision to fire Mock because a coaching change was in the best interest of the program moving forward.
Assistant coach Coleman Scott will take over as interim coach while the school searches for Mock’s replacement.
