RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – This is the week that North Carolina Senate Republicans want to pass their version of a state government spending plan for the next two years.
Several budget subcommittees prepared to meet Monday afternoon to unveil key portions of the Senate proposal. Chamber leaders want the measure approved by the full appropriations committee Tuesday and on the floor for two recorded votes by week’s end.
The Senate was expected to spend less in the next fiscal year than what the House OK’d in its spending plan last month, and to put more in government reserve accounts. Senate GOP leaders already have proposed more income tax reductions in a separate bill.
The House and Senate will aim to work out a final agreement before the new fiscal year begins July 1.
