RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Ask anyone out of the CASL soccer fields early Tuesday and it will be come apparent the Triangle loves soccer.
Interest in the sport has increased lately due to the women’s 2015 World Cup.
“It’s the ultimate dream ever since we were little,” said Emily Duerr, U14 CASL ECNL member.
The World Cup, soccer’s biggest stage, is an event that mesmerizes soccer fans of every age every four years.
“I started soccer when I was about three, that age, and so I’ve always dreamed of being a professional soccer player. Mia Hamm was my idol and I always dreamed of playing in the World Cup,” said Hannah Arostegui, U14 CASL ECNL member.
But for now, Hannah and her teammates will have to settle for watching the competition.
“We are all really into it, we even made a team bracket and we’re having a competition to see who’s winning,” Duerr said.
And Tuesday night, every girl with a dream to play in the World Cup as the U.S. Women’s team takes on Nigeria for a spot in the finals.
