DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — Durham Police charged a man Wednesday in the fatal shooting at an apartment last Thursday night.

Javaun Devonte Graves, 20, of Durham died in the shooting, which happened after “an argument” at an apartment complex in the 700 block of Atlantic Street.

Graves, who was shot just before 10:30 p.m., was taken to Duke University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Anthony Peaks Jr., 21, of Durham was arrested Wednesday  evening and charged with murder in this case, police said. The shooting did not appear to be a random incident, according to investigators.

Officers also served Peaks with outstanding warrants for possession of stolen goods, possession of marijuana and obtaining property by false pretense.

He was placed in Durham County Jail without bond.

The scene was cleared by 5 a.m. Friday  after police had began searching for a suspect.
