Durham football league teams up with nonprofits to provide free camp to kids

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – The Oak Grove Association for Athletes is teaming up with two local nonprofits to offer 10 scholarships to the organization’s upcoming football camp.

Oak Grove is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and Uptown Thrift to offer 10 athletes ages 6-12 free tuition fees for the Black Out Football camp starting Monday, June 22.

Football coach Abdul Mapp says the program gives young boys in the area a positive outlet.

“Football is a team sport and in life it takes a team to be successful. We are trying to teach them some of those basic fundamentals out here. For me it’s a blessing to be out here and be a part of their lives so it’s something I plan to do for a long time,” Mapp said.

For details about the scholarships, contact Big Brothers Big Sisters or Mike Risley at Uptown Thrift at 561-702-7466 or at 919-703-0200.
