Two men from New Jersey were killed after they were hit by a car in Southern Pines early Sunday morning, officials said.
The incident happened just outside Aberdeen at 1850 US Highway 1 near the Sizzlin Steak or Eggs Restaurant in the southbound lane around 1 am, said Capt. Charles E. Campbell II with the Southern Pines Police.
The two men who died were pedestrians in the road and were hit by a Ford Taurus car, Campbell said.
The men were identified as Richard Panarra and Michael Napolitano, both from Jackson, NJ, Campbell said.
The pair were in town attending a motorcycle event in Rockingham, he said.
US 1 was closed in both directions for nearly 3 hours after the crash.
The Taurus was heavily damaged in the crash, but the driver was not injured, according to Campbell.
Campbell said that there are no charges in the crash.
