DURHAM, NC (WNCN) — Churches in the Triangle are remembering the 9 people killed in Charleston.
WNCN stopped by Emmanuel AME Church in Durham Sunday morning.
The church has ties to the historic church in South Carolina.
Members say their hearts are heavy, but it’s time to heal and pray for change.
They did so today with the help of Congressman G.K.Butterfield.
The tragedy has sparked another debate among lawmakers about gun control.
”We are going to continue to push for that control. I personally will be advocating for strict liability to purchase a gun and give it to another individual also to consider insurance for those who own and poses guns. Legislatively we must address gun violence in this country,” said Congressman G.K. Butterfield, CBC Chair
Congressman Butterfield says he plans to travel to South Carolina in a few days to attend one or more of the funerals.
