A Dunn native and Meredith College sophomore is the newly crowned Miss North Carolina 2015.
Miss Dunn Kate Peacock was crowned Saturday night in Memorial Auditorium. Peacock’s pageant platform is, “Peeper Keepers: Promoting Awareness for Pediatric Eye Diseases.” Her year of service will take her across the state and she’ll represent North Carolina at Miss America in September.
Peacock is the recipient of a $12,500 scholarship. She performed a tap dance to “Swing the Mood” and also was awarded the Hailey Best Overall Talent Award.
Miss Metrolina Cheslie Kryst was 1st Runner Up and was awarded a $3,500 scholarship.
The final night of the Miss America competition is scheduled for Sept. 13. Only one Miss North Carolina – Maria Fletcher in 1961 – has won the Miss America competition. Two North Carolina contestants have finished in the top five in the 21st Century. Miss North Carolina 2004 Kirstin Elrod was second runner-up at the Miss America Pageant. Miss North Carolina 2007 Jessica Jacobs was fourth runner-up for Miss America. Peacock is the first woman from Dunn, North Carolina to qualify for the Miss America competition.
