BLADEN COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The State Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation of an accident Monday night that sent the deputy and six other people to the hospital.
According to Sheriff Jim McVicker, the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of NC 211 Bypass and NC 410 just outside the Bladenboro city limits.
Investigators say Deputy Robert Duggan was traveling east on NC 211 responding to an emergency call when he approached the intersection at NC 410 near the city limits of Bladenboro. Dep. Duggan failed to stop at stop light and collided into a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica SUV traveling north on NC 410.
According to McVicker, six people were in the SUV. The driver was taken to Southeastern Regional Hospital in Lumberton, where he is listed in stable condition. Four others in the vehicle were taken to Bladen County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An 8-year-old girl was ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted to Chapel Hill, where she is listed in stable condition.
Dep. Duggan was transported to Bladen County Hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released Tuesday morning.
The State Highway Patrol is continuing their investigation into the crash. Once completed, investigators will confer with the local District Attorney’s office as to possible charges.
