RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — A woman managed to escape her partially submerged upside down car that rolled over several times while plummeting off the road, down a hill and into a Raleigh creek on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 4 pm when the woman was driving down Barwell Road towards Poole Road, which is just outside west Raleigh, officials said.
As the woman’s 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse came around a curve, lost control, crossed the center line, over-corrected, went sideways and then went down an embankment beside a bridge.
The car rolled several times, hit a walking trail below and then landed upside down in Walnut Creek, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.
By the time Troopers arrived, the woman was out of the car and talking to emergency responders, officials said.
The woman, whose name was not released, was then take to WakeMed in Raleigh for further treatment.
Troopers don’t know the cause of the crash yet, but say that speed was a factor.
