DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Durham police said the grandson of a newspaper carrier found shot to death Thursday morning has been arrested and charged with murder.
Police received a call around 5:45 a.m. Thursday about the body. Police said a man’s body was found in the parking lot of the Red Cross located at 4737 University Drive.
Police identified the victim as 65-year-old William Evans of Durham.
Police said Evans died from a gunshot wound.
Dominick Jackson, 16, of Durham, the grandson of Evans, is now charged him with murder, Durham police said.
Evans was a newspaper carrier for The Herald-Sun for more than 10 years, the Durham newspaper confirmed Thursday.
Durham police investigators have recovered a 2013 silver Chevrolet Impala in conjunction with the homicide investigation on 4737 University Drive. The investigation is ongoing.
