IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WNBTV) – A multi-vehicle crash closed down part of Interstate 40 in Iredell County Monday morning. The roadway was reopened around 6:45 a.m.
The crash was reported just before 5 a.m. on eastbound I-40 at mile marker 141, near Sharon School Road. All eastbound lanes were closed.
A van hit a tire strip in the roadway, causing the driver to lose control and hit the median. Officials say the occupants of the van pulled over and got out of the car. That’s when two cars struck the van. The occupants who were standing outside were not injured.
The drivers of the two other cars were taken to the hospital. One driver was airlifted and the other was transported by ambulance. Both drivers are in good condition, officials say.
No charges are expected to be filed.
