The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina received a hefty donated from UnitedHealthcare.
The group donated $5,000 which will go towards purchasing 70,000 pounds of fresh produce from local farmers.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to acquire some fresh produce,’’ said Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC CEO Peter Werbicki. “Summer time is where we see a great volume of fresh produce so it couldn’t be coming at a better time for the hungry folks in our 34 counties,” he added.
The Food Bank was also given 10 large coolers that it will use to keep perishable foods on ice—such as eggs, dairy products and of course that fresh produce.
