RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Neighbors in North Raleigh are trying to stop another possible grocery store.

Raleigh City Council is set to vote Tuesday on whether to hold a public hearing on a rezoning request of land on Litchford Road near Falls of Neuse Road. The land sits just north of Interstate 540.

The city’s planning commission voted in favor of the rezoning even though they noted the “request is inconsistent with the

Comprehensive Plan.” Still, commissioners said the request was “reasonable and in the public interest.”

Commissioners are suggesting council approve an August 4 public hearing.

Some neighbors have placed yard signs urging opposition to the plan, which could bring a new shopping center to the area.

Earlier this year, neighbors in that area successfully stopped a planned Publix grocery store, citing concerns about traffic.
