LENOIR, NC (WBTV) – A nine-month-old is dead after police say a vehicle rolled back on the young boy while other children were playing inside the car.
According to police, the incident happened around 7:24 p.m. Tuesday night at the Sunset Mobile Home Park in Lenoir.
The child was in a car seat on the ground, when a vehicle rolled back and hit him.
Police say the initial investigation shows the vehicle was parked at a nearby mobile home. That’s when two children, ages 6 and 8, appear to have been playing in the car and released the brake.
The vehicle rolled downhill, hitting the toddler and another parked vehicle.
Officers are calling the incident a “tragic accident” and say no charges have been filed in the case.
“This is a tragic incident that took a beautiful life much too soon. Regarding the investigation, we will determine exactly what happened and make decisions on how to proceed,” Chief Scott Brown stated. “Until then, let’s pray for this family and do everything we can to protect our children at all times.”
The Lenoir Police Department and the Caldwell County Department of Social Services are still investigating.
