Body pulled from Cape Fear River

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Fayetteville authorities said divers have recovered a man’s body in the Cape Fear River near the Person Street bridge.

Investigators and the Search and Rescue/Dive team spent the day searching the water for a man identified as James Earl McDonald, 47, who was last seen in the water beneath the bridge Saturday afternoon. Police said that their investigation shows McDonald jumped from the bridge into the river and went into immediate distress.

McDonald died as a result of the injuries sustained after he jumped.
