RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – People lined up Saturday in Raleigh in hopes of getting a chance to shed some weight on season 17 of the NBC hit “The Biggest Loser.”
More than 300 people were expected at the casting call held at the Planet Fitness gym located on Six Forks Road.
WNCN’s Justin Quesinberry spoke with the first person who arrived for the casting call. Alicia Allen, who lives in Raleigh, arrived nine hours before the doors opened at 10 a.m.
“I wanted to beat the crowd and I did. The crowd didn’t start show up until about 5 a.m., so I was out here alone,” she said.
The show is looking for teams of two who have at least 80 pounds to lose. They’ll compete for a grand prize of $250,000.
Raleigh is one of nine cities to host a casting call.
Producers say they’re looking for outgoing, charismatic teams with personality, desire and a competitive edge.
“[We’re] looking for people who really, really want this, who maybe have tried everything they can do to lose the weight and this is the last shot and, you know, we want to find someone who wants to do this for the rest of their life, not to just lose weight on the show,” said casting producer Barbara Wulff.
Robin Manley from Rocky Mount was one of those who auditioned.
“I think the solution would be the support from other people and watching other people do it,” she said. “…You know when you’re on that treadmill and you see that person and they’re going and then you want to go, so I just think being around other people will just give me the energy that I need to really put forth my best.”
Allen said she’s confident she’ll have a place on the show.
“Go ahead and congratulate me because I’m going to be the Biggest Loser season 17,” she said.
