RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — The son of Raleigh’s police chief was charged with a crime this weekend after a dispute over a bar tab last week, officials say.
David Louis Brown, age 23, the son of Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown, surrendered to authorities Saturday on a charge of defrauding an innkeeper, Raleigh Police Spokesman Jim Sughrue said.
The charge stems from a “dispute over a tab that occurred at 400 W. Morgan Street on July 8,” Sughrue said in a statement.
A bar called The Ugly Monkey is located at 400 W. Morgan Street.
Cassandra Deck-Brown was sworn in as police chief in Feb. 2013.
“I am concerned and disappointed that my adult child made choices that caused him to be charged. On a personal level, I will support him and the efforts he makes to achieve positive change,” Deck-Brown said in a statement.
“While this is embarrassing for him and for me, it does not alter the love we have for one another. At the same time, I will maintain the confidence I have in the justice system and will let the legal process run its course.”
