FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A Fayetteville woman charged in the death of her 18-month-old daughter is back in Cumberland County and is expected to go before a judge Friday afternoon.
Vanessa Ariana Sanchez, 20, and her fiance, 21-year-old Andrew Tyler Tomczak, were arrested last month in Colorado, where they had been living since spring.
Police think Tomczak and Sanchez beat their 18-month-old daughter, Violet Cortez, in January before calling 911 and saying they had found her unresponsive at their apartment.
Cortez died of a head injury due to multiple blunt force impacts, authorities said.

Tomczak and Sanchez face charges of first-degree murder and felony child abuse.
The couple was arrested in Colorado and Tomczak was transported to the Wake County Jail in June. At the time, Sanchez was still in jail in Colorado Springs before eventually returning to Cumberland County.
Sanchez is expected to go before a judge at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
