The tragic shootings in Chattanooga on Thursday rippled across the state line to North Carolina, with three of the Marines who were killed having North Carolina ties.
Carson Holmquist, who lived in Jacksonville, was killed Thursday in the shootings by Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Holmquist was from Grantsburg, Wisconsin, but listed Jacksonville, North Carolina, as his place of residence on his Facebook page.
Another victim, Staff Sgt. David A. Wyatt, was from of Burke, North Carolina, according to the U.S. government.
Also killed was Gunnery Sgt. Thomas J. Sullivan of Hampden, Massachusetts.
WITN reported that Holmquist, Wyatt and Sullivan had all served at Camp Lejeune.
Also killed was Lance Cpl. Squire K. Wells of Cobb County, Georgia, who a family spokesman says went by “Skip.”
Their deaths shocked family and friends, who soon posted on Facebook to console their families.
“We are all sorry for your loss. All of us are thinking of you all and praying,” a friend posted on the Facebook page of Wyatt’s wife.
