FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – The search for a swimmer who went missing in the Cape Fear River Friday afternoon is back under way after the search was suspended Friday night.
Three people were swimming in the river when a call came in around 2 p.m. Friday that three swimmers were in distress.
One person was rescued while hanging onto a log. A second was able to make it to shore.
But emergency officials are still looking for the third person, a 21-year-old male. He was identified as Drequan Odle.
The three were swimming near the Person Street bridge when the current became too much for them to handle.
Rescue efforts were suspended at nightfall Friday and began again at 8:30 a.m. Saturday
