SPARTANBURG, SC — A South Carolina mother is facing charges after her young son was found wandering outdoors without a diaper and covered in feces.
Officers were called to the home on Highpoint Road in Spartanburg on Sunday morning, after a neighbor spotted the child while he was outside watering plants.
WYFF-TV reported the child, whose age was not provided, was spotted playing alone in some bushes.
Police reported the child was wearing a dirty t-shirt and no diaper. The boy toddler also appeared to be covered in feces, with an open wound on his ankle and road rash on his buttocks.
WYFF reported that a neighbor called 911 when he saw the child with no diaper, covered in “brown substances” come out to the street with no one else around, according to an incident report.
Police say the child’s mother, 22-year-old Lenzie Ezell, was inside sleeping.
An inspection of the home showed the back door was open, with glass on the floor inside, police said. Officers also reported seeing more feces and pills covering the floors in every room. There was also no food or drink in the home, according to police.
The child was taken to the hospital to be checked out, and will be transferred into the custody of the Department of Social Services.
Ezell is now charged with child neglect. She is being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center $1,120 bond on two charges, including an outstanding bench warrant, WHNS-TV reports.
