DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – Durham nonprofit Crayons2Calculators launched a month-long school supply drive on Monday to benefit Durham teachers and their students.
The organization will partner with more than 200 businesses, neighborhoods and other charitable groups for the effort. The goal is to collect more than $120,000 in this year’s drive in pencils, paper, binders, markers, crayons and other necessities for students.
Crayons2Calculators will host “Fill That Bus!,” a kick-off event where those in attendance can bring new school supplies and have dinner. The event goes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Blue Note Grill located at 709 Washington St. in Durham. The restaurant will donate 10 percent of Wednesday night’s proceeds to “Fill That Bus!”
Beginning Monday, businesses will put out collection bins in their offices. Those who wish to donate supplies can do so at the American Red Cross, The Carolina Theatre and the Durham Convention and Visitors Bureau during regular business hours.
All donations will be taken to the C2C Warehouse and organized into aisles, where teachers from Durham schools will be invited to come and “shop” for much-needed supplies for their classrooms.
