RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Authorities kept people away from a dorm on the N.C. State campus for more than an hour Monday afternoon after officials say a suspicious package was found.
A worker with the N.C. State Fire Marshall’s office at the scene told WNCN that a suspicious package was found inside a Wolf Ridge residence hall at 1910 Entrepreneur Drive.
The incident was first reported around 3:40 p.m. and authorities were seen leaving around 5:10 p.m.
Once the item was examined by authorities, it turned out to be a PVC pipe covered with a brown paper bag with the bag spray painted red, said Mick Kulikowski of N.C. State.
A wire was seen sticking out of the item, Kulikowski told WNCN, who added it might be a prank.
The item was found in a room in Tower Hall, which is part of a series of student apartments called Wolf Ridge.
When the scene was active, a Wolf Ridge Resident Adviser told WNCN that she did not believe any students were inside.
Also, students walking up during the scene were asked to stay away and traffic in the area was being re-routed.
People who live there say they were left in the dark.
“Just trying to figure out what’s going on…. but no one is telling anything, so hope it’s nothing really serious,” said Andre Ramos, an NC State student.
