DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – If you have ever dreamed of starting your own business, but just don’t know where to start, read on.
You may have help to get your idea off the ground. It’s What’s Next.
Groundwork Labs is in the American Tobacco District. It has a new startup program that’s helping working professionals launch their great ideas.
This opportunity is specifically targeted to those who have a full-time job and obligations that won’t let them dedicate a lot of time to a start-up. It’s a new night program for working professionals, starting in August.
Groundwork Labs Director John Austin says so many great ideas were coming to him from people with big dreams but little free time.
The new program will offer advice on business models, target customer base, costs, and forecasted problems.
Austin tells WNCN’s Mike Gonzalez it will be a testing ground for innovations, saying it could “find out if this idea is really good enough that they could commit full-time to it…or understand that it’s not going to quite work out.”
The ultimate goal is to get a company a grant, then connect them to investors and business partners.
What are they looking for? Austin says they want to develop companies with potential to grow. High-tech hardware and software component companies are attractive.
Applications are being accepted through Sunday, July 26. You can apply at http://www.groundworklabs.com
