MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. (WITN) – A Marine who was wanted for threatening to kill his wife is now in law enforcement custody in Carteret County.
Marine Captain Ryan Alvis says Private Clenard Gee-Simmons will be transferred to NCIS custody later today.
The Marine was arrested by deputies and Atlantic Beach police, according to Major Jason Wank with the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.
Michigan deputies say the 21-year-old Marine “fled from a low priority lockdown unit” at Camp Lejeune on Monday and says he made “credible threats” toward his 19-year-old wife and her family, who live in Pontiac.
Yesterday Camp Lejeune said Gee-Simmons was never detained by them. Now a base spokeswoman says the Marine was on room restriction imposed by his unit.
Michigan deputies say Gee-Simmons made “multiple threats” to kill his wife and her family before she left North Carolina for Michigan. It says she’s filed for divorce.
The Marines say the NCIS investigation is continuing.
