2 women pose as nursing assistants, steal jewelry from senior living centers in Cary

CARY, N.C. (WNCN) – Cary police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two women they say are posing as nursing assistants in order to gain access to nursing homes and steal the residents’ jewelry.


The women can be seen on surveillance footage from two nursing homes.

The first suspect is described as white or Hispanic, 25-35 years of age, 5-foot-1 to 5-foot-5 inches tall, with medium build and dark hair. Her hair was in a ponytail and she work sunglasses on her head.

The second suspect is described as also being white or Hispanic, with a similar height and build, roughly 45-55 years old and can be seen in photos and video wearing a train conductor-style hat with glasses. Witnesses say she spoke with a heavy accent.

The incidents occurred on July 4 at the Waltonwood Cary Parkway senior living community at 750 SE Cary Parkway and on July 11 at the SearStone retirement community located at 17001 Searstone Drive.

Residents told police that the women wore hospital scrubs and entered the buildings and went door-to-door checking for unlocked apartments. The women targeted the residents’ jewelry.


Neither wore any official identification and residents described the women as polite and friendly.

No one was injured in any of the incidents, but police say the stolen jewelry is estimated to be valued in the tens of thousands of dollars.
