RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – More than 500 first-year students moved into Shaw University Friday.
The downtown Raleigh campus’ new president, Shaw alum Tashni Dubroy, welcomed those students and their families as they moved into dorm rooms.
Dubroy starts her first semester amid declining enrollment and financial problems.
Shaw alum Valerie Mallison, who drove from New York City to help her son move in, said she was optimistc about the university’s future.
“She’s a Shaw alumni too, so it means a lot,” Mallison said. “When you come back, you can work many other places, but when you come back to your school, it just says a lot.”
Classes begin Aug. 12 at Shaw.
