RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – Shaw University announced Saturday it has suspended its band director while administrators investigate his behavior.
Charles Brown is suspended with pay while the investigation looks into behavior the University said was not consistent with its policies and principles.
Shaw administrators said this suspension is unrelated to recent reallocation of band scholarships and is strictly a personnel matter.
“As of right now we are continuing with practice without Mr. Brown,” said Shaw Band Member, Kinia Krzewski. “We’re all just praying for the best right now. We truly do miss him and we were really upset when we found out that he got suspended.”
School officials met with students over the weekend to share the news.
“They were just telling us about the suspension,” said Krzewski. “They said they couldn’t say anything about it. They told us that we couldn’t contact Mr. Brown and he isn’t allowed to contact us. So they couldn’t tell us the why he got suspended.”
The University said it is obligated to investigate due to the seriousness of the accusations.
An interim band director will be named soon.
