FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – Fayetteville police are investigating a homicide and trying to identify a man seen on surveillance videos after a man was found dead behind a business in the 300 block of Ray Avenue.
Police responded to the business at approximately 9:40 a.m. after receiving a report of a deceased male. The man was apparently found by people walking through the area.
The preliminary investigation shows that the cause of death to be “the result of a violent act,” police said.
Detectives are actively investigating the homicide and are requesting anyone with information to contact them.
Around 11:20 p.m. Sunday, police released two videos from surveillance cameras in the area where the dead man was found.
In one video, a man with a hood of some sort is seen leaning down to take off the hood/mask. In another video, the same man is seen in a parking lot — at times possibly without the mask — and then running from the parking lot.
“Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the subject in the ….videos,” police said in a press release.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available. The name of the victim is currently being withheld.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective M. Ballard with the Fayetteville Police Department at (910) 549-7326 or Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
