Durham non-profit works to collect $120,000 in school supplies

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – The non-profit “Crayons2Calculators” and Rotary Clubs of Durham worked Saturday to fill a bus with donated school supplies.

The month-long drive looked to collect everything from pencils to glue sticks, and calculators to binders.

More than 200 businesses and neighborhoods partnered to collect the supplies in recent weeks.

Volunteers took donations at local stores Saturday.

The goal of this year’s drive was $120,000 in supplies.

“Teachers often have to fund this and we feel that teachers are already having to struggle with their low salaries and do a great job and so the community wanted to step up and support them in a way that would help them do a better job and focus on their teaching,” said Newman Aguiar, district governor of the Rotary Clubs.

It’s never too late to donate as Crayons2Calculators operates year-round.
