Man wanted in Fayetteville hatchet attack surrenders to police

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WNCN) – A 33-year-old man surrendered to police Tuesday after police said he assaulted a woman and attacked his roommate with hatchet.

Ryan Damon Green surrendered just before 1 p.m. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault on a female, Fayetteville police said.

The incident was discovered just before 7:30 a.m., when officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center about a stabbing victim in the emergency room.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 25-year-old man was involved in an altercation with his roommate inside of their house on the 7200 block of Ryan Street in Fayetteville, police said in a press release.

“During the altercation, (the suspect) assaulted a female inside the residence and then assaulted the (male roommate) man with a hatchet,” police said.

The male victim received a cut to his back and was driven to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for treatment where he is currently listed in good condition.

The male victim’s injury is not considered life threatening, police said.

Green is being held on a $100,000 secured bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
